Porsche Design Sport Chrono Collection

Porsche Design Sport Chrono Collection

BACK TO THE ROOTS.

In the beginning, there was the sports car. This, at least, holds true for the creation story of the legendary Chronograph I by Porsche Design. Inspired by the functional instruments of the 911 and Porsche race cars, it became a global success after its launch in 1972. Its matt black dial and case as well as the white indices and hands guarantee optimal readability. The red stop-second hand, which is based on the rev counter in Porsche cars, was also transferred from the cockpit to the wrist. The essential components of the Chronograph I are thus based on one uncompromising design concept: form equals function. Wearing Porsche DNA on the wrist has established itself as an exclusive experience in the watch industry, and lives on in the timepiece design to this day. Everything comes full circle – and design principles from the wrist are now being brought back into the vehicle. With the Sport Chrono Package with Porsche Design Subsecond watch, Porsche Design returns to where it all began: the vehicles themselves.

WATCHES AND SPORTS CARS. INSEPARABLY LINKED.

As early as 1963, the Porsche 911 featured an electrically powered clock as part of the 5-tube instruments. From the early 2000s, Porsche enhanced the display by adding a central additional instrument in the middle of the dashboard. Initially, it enabled lap times to be displayed, and has been continuously further developed with the addition of control functions for engine and chassis components, and the exhaust system. As part of the so-called Sport Chrono Package, it was not a classic three-hand watch, but an instrument with a digital display and one hand. The vision of communicatively combining an optimally readable instrument for displaying the time with a sports car becomes reality with the new Sport Chrono Package with Porsche Design Subsecond watch.

As in 1963, the timepiece is electrically powered and equipped with high-quality hands as well as a metal face featuring ceramic indices and Super-LumiNova coating. Together with a specially developed incident light technology, the impression created is exactly the same as that of high-end wristwatches – but in the vehicle. The Sport Chrono displays are now exclusively in digital form in the central display instrument. The Porsche Design watch on the dashboard ensures that the time can be read easily. Just like the Chronograph I.

TIME DOES NOT STAND STILL. NEITHER DO WE.

Whether in the Porsche Panamera, the Taycan or the 911 – the Sport Chrono Package featuring the Porsche Design Subsecond chronometer lets you select an even sportier experience across all Porsche models while keeping an eye on your best time. The perfect complement is the Porsche Design Sport Chrono Collection, which brings the unique sports car feeling to your wrist.

Since 2014, Porsche Design has been applying its core competencies in its own watch manufacture, Porsche Design Timepieces AG, to create technical masterpieces of its own design. For the first time since production was moved to Solothurn in Switzerland, the Sport Chrono Collection now offers a smaller option with a diameter of 39mm – in addition to the standard 42mm. These new variants are available in three different colors and are powered by the COSC-certified Porsche Design WERK 03.200. Although the size has changed, the unmistakable design, exceptional functionality and high Porsche quality standard remains exactly the same.

HIGH-QUALITY. UNIQUE. UNMISTAKABLY PORSCHE DESIGN.

In keeping with the tradition of the Chronograph I, the Porsche Design Sport Chrono Collection brings minimalist design to the wearer’s wrist. The wearer decides how their watch model incorporates the vehicle design and brings it to the wrist: as a subsecond chronometer or as a chronometer with chronograph function.

The Sport Chrono Subsecond is equipped with the Porsche Design caliber WERK 03.200, which features a running second display at 6 o’clock. Available in the color combinations Titanium & Black, Titanium & Blue or Titanium & Brown, it impresses not only with its stylish, minimalist design, but also with a high-quality, highly resistant titanium case.

The chronograph version features the Porsche Design caliber WERK 01.100 which is also equipped with a stop function. Through the transparent sapphire glass of the case back, you can admire the unmistakable combination of attention to detail and technical expertise. Both movements – like all Porsche Design calibres – are COSC certified for maximum precision.
