The GP ICE RACE 2023 is cancelled due to warm weather

Zell am See, 12.01.2022: The GP ICE RACE 2023, which was planned to take place from 27 – 29 January 2023, is cancelled due to the ongoing and exceptionally warm weather situation in the Austrian Alps. The organizers reached this conclusion after consultations with partners and sponsors. Tickets already purchased will be fully refunded – there will be no replacement date.

After meticulous preparation and excellent ice conditions at the beginning of December, the weather change during the last weeks reduced the existing ice reserve below the minimum required, and did not allow for further ice production. Despite intensive work on alternative solutions, it quickly became apparent that the necessary conditions for a safe and smooth running of the event were not in place.

All tickets purchased through the official GP ICE RACE ticket store will be automatically refunded to the account from which they were paid. Therefore, there is no immediate need for action on the part of the ticket holders to obtain a refund. We ask for some patience and understanding as the refund process may take up to two weeks.

Ferdi Porsche, Managing Director of the organizer GP Ice Race: “The GP Ice Race is spectacle for everyone. It is therefore with regret, that we have had to cancel this iconic ice racing event. The current warm weather system did not leave us with another option. I want to thank our fans and supports. These have been some tough weeks, but we will now look forward to a reunion at the Grossglockner.”

Constantin Klein, managing director of the organizer GP Ice Race: “We are beyond disappointed. In particular, since we had been looking forward to seeing the fans again after two years without spectators. This event runs on passion. But there is no sense in forcing something through despite clear facts. I want to expressly thank our partners and sponsors, who have been incredibly understanding and supportive.”
