Porsche GT Team will not compete in the IMSA race in Mid-Ohio

The Porsche GT Team will not be participating in the seventh round of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship on September 27th at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. This decision was taken due to three positive Covid-19 tests that were confirmed during the 24 Hours of Le Mans last weekend.

As a precautionary measure, Porsche Motorsport will not be sending any of its team members who were in Le Mans for the Nürburgring 24 Hours. This ruling will also apply to the upcoming race in North America. Factory drivers Laurens Vanthoor from Belgium, Frédéric Makowiecki from France and British driver Nick Tandy all competed in Le Mans. Porsche will be back in the competition for the eighths race of the season at Charlotte on 10 October.

“Based on yesterday’s decision that no employee or racing driver of our Le Mans team will participate in the Nürburgring 24 Hours, we have today decided that this ruling will also apply to the upcoming IWSC race in Mid-Ohio. This means that Laurens, Nick and Fred will not be travelling to the USA,” said Fritz Enzinger, Vice President Motorsport. “This is very regrettable, but we would like to emphasise that in this case as well the health of all those concerned is the prime focus of the decisions we have taken.”
